The Bishop Kenny Athletics Building is a two-story facility designed to enhance the athletic programs at Bishop Kenny High School in Jacksonville, Florida. This state-of-the-art building provides a range of spaces, including gymnasiums, locker rooms, and training areas, all aimed at supporting the physical and mental development of student-athletes.

Structural Engineering Highlights

• Composite Steel Second Floor: The second floor is supported by a composite steel frame system, utilizing steel beams and metal decking to provide efficient load distribution and long-span capabilities, ensuring clear, unobstructed spaces for multi-purpose athletic use.
• CMU and Steel Brace Frames: The lateral stability of the structure is achieved through the use of concrete masonry units (CMU) for the exterior walls, coupled with steel brace frames to resist lateral forces.
• Flexible Layouts: The open floor plan on the second floor allows for flexible use of space, accommodating various athletic activities and ensuring future adaptability as needs evolve.
• Durability and Strength: Both the steel frame and CMU provide a strong, durable structure that is capable of withstanding the rigorous demands of a high-traffic athletic facility.
